    Through a creative alliance between Syracuse University and Le Moyne College, the Fellowship for Emerging Leaders in Ministry offers a dynamic and distinctive setting to form leaders that are empowered to thrive within challenging times.

    Those who participate in the Fellowship focus on various aspects of leadership development, with the goal of thriving vocationally and enhancing the vitality of the communities they serve.

    Drawing deeply on the latest research in leadership, the primary goals of the program are as follows:
    • Provide knowledge and skills for increased impact in leadership, team-building and community-building
    • Nurture self-awareness and ongoing personal spiritual development
    • Increase effectiveness and a sense of accomplishment
    • Share educational and other relevant resources
    • Raise the level of vocational fulfillment.
    The Ideal Candidate for this Program
    The ideal candidates for the Fellowship for Emerging Leaders in Ministry include faith-based leaders in central New York. Typically, participants will have more than three (3) years of experience.

    This program is suitable for leaders of Christian churches (parishes, congregations) of any size – not only senior pastors (ministers) in large, flourishing, established churches but also pastoral leaders of small, newly established churches (congregations, parishes).

    This is a selective program with a competitive application process. Those interested in participation will be required to submit an application and request a sponsoring statement from a supervisor, board member within the organization, or a community leader who is thoroughly familiar with you and can provide a detailed, firsthand appraisal.

    Applicants should be prepared for, and comfortable with, engaging in an in-depth spiritual renewal and leadership discernment process in a supportive environment.

    Program Costs
    Thanks to generous funding from the Lilly Endowment and support provided by Syracuse University and Le Moyne College, this program is offered at no cost to participants. Tuition, accommodations and most meals will be covered by the Thriving in Ministry Grant. Please note that travel to and from the residencies and program materials will be at the candidate’s expense.

    As faith communities respond to the realities of the coronavirus pandemic, racial inequity, and economic hardship, the Fellowship for Emerging Leaders in Ministry provides leaders with a dynamic platform to spark renewal and transformation for mission-driven faith communities in central New York and beyond. This program is ideal for emerging faith leaders who seek to lead change in their organizations.

    We are living at a time when leaders are being called upon to create and sustain opportunity in the midst of unpredictable circumstances. In response to such tremendous need, the Fellowship for Emerging Leaders in Ministry will give particular attention to being grounded in one’s faith tradition, awareness of strengths and opportunities for improvement, and sparking the joy that is found in co-creating change for the sake of developing mission-driven communities. Through an action and reflection cycle, participants will grow both their roots and reach, for the sake of thriving in ministry.

    Among other things, participants will acquire a deeper understanding of their own vocation, develop new insights about individual and community change, and foster new relationships with area leaders, professionals, and students.

    Program Components
    The program delivery model includes:
    • Multiple On-Site Residencies*
    • Peer Coaching and Mentoring
    • Assessments and Workshops
    • Online Modules including Virtual Workshops
    All other program study is performed online both within the cohorts and on an individual basis. In addition, Fellows will be supported by coaches and faculty mentors throughout the program.

    *Fellows will attend five onsite residencies in Syracuse, New York, over the course of seven-months. There will be an online orientation on Sunday, October 26th at 7pm. More details to come. Overnight accommodations will be provided for those who are travelling for over an hour. Meals will be covered by the program. Travel to and from the residencies are at the candidate’s expense.

    Residencies
    In-person residences in Syracuse, New York, are intended to serve as intense and immersive 24-hour gatherings combining spiritual reflection, case-studies, lectures, peer discussions, and guest speakers.

    • Residency III: January 25– 26, 2026
    • Residency IV: February 16, 2026 (online)
    • Residency V: March 15 – 16, 2026
    • Residency VI: April 19 – 20, 2026
    Virtual Coaching Circles
    Virtual Coaching Circles will offer fellows an opportunity to grow in community with their cohort and further explore topics through the lens of their peers. In between residencies, Fellows will meet online monthly for 1.5 hours. Session dates and times will be determined during residencies.
